We plan to keep our updates short and concise, giving you a picture of what’s happening in the vineyard and with our wines. This will be the first place to hear about any new wines or events in the future!
But first, a short overview to date; we planted our 5 acres in the gloriously sunny spring of 2020 and have spent the last 2 summers focusing the vines energy on developing its roots and latterly its trunk. The trellis work was all done last winter, providing the vines with a good strong structure to climb upon, this has really helped us protect that all important trunk which should last us 50+ years. We believe the vines are in good shape to allow us to take a light crop next year, so watch out for volunteer picking days in September and October 2022!
We are very pleased to have launched our very first wines last month! These are designed to give you a taster of English wine and in particular the varieties we have chosen to grow. It was brilliant to see so many of you at Minsterley show, we had a great day talking and tasting – bring on next year!
In the vineyard as we speak, the vines have grown the full height of the trellising, we have taped them to their stakes to help keep a straight trunk. Disease wise, they are all looking very healthy! Nutritionally speaking, some of the vines are lacking in Magnesium, which is quite common for young vines especially on such sandy soil that we have, we’ve given them a boost of a nutrient packed seaweed spray and will look to put some compost down undervine which will help to boost magnesium levels. As we enter Autumn, the leaves will start to fall and the vines will shut down ready for their 2nd Winter here in Shropshire!
