April update
What's going on in the vines...

In the vineyard

Since our last newsletter, we have completed pruning! It took 155 hours this year, so quite a bit longer than last year, probably due to the fact there are more cuts to make or is it Zoë becoming slow…

We had our lovely volunteers join us for 3 mornings in March to help pull out the old canes, quite a tough task but everyone persevered really well! Great to see some new faces too, we host volunteer days throughout the growing season and particularly at harvest. It is a great opportunity to see the vineyard progress over the season. A big thank you again to those who joined us this time!

We are now on the task of tying down the fruiting canes, almost finished actually thanks to a handy new tying tool! The vines are really loving this sunshine, and moving on fast, with a lot of them about to burst any time now! So, in a week or so, frost watch will begin.

In the bottle

Our recent trip to the winery at Halfpenny Green, allowed us to taste through the 2 wines we made from last season, both are tasting fab despite the very tough growing conditions! Bottling will take place over the next few months and then its time to rest in bottle before release.

We also had a taste of some of our ageing sparkling wines, to see how they are developing. These wines are “Sur Lie” or on their lees, meaning the wine is in contact with the dead yeast cells inside the bottle. The longer we leave the wines ageing like this, the more biscuity, yeasty and brioche flavours we will pick up. It is really interesting to see how the wines change over time! We are very excited about what is to come!

What our customers have to say…
My second Solaris. Really loving this fantastic drop from lovely Shrewsbury. Light, fragrant, grass notes. Lots of green apple and a tropical edge.
