Pruning, pruning, pruning

Following the flow

Winter pruning is still very much the name of the game at the moment, we finished off in the Solaris last week and we will be through the Seyval Blanc in a couple of days. Then onto the home straight with the Pinot Noir Précoce! We’ve chosen to prune in this order to help reduce our risk from deadly spring frosts, the idea is that the later you prune the later the vines will bud. So we purposefully choose to prune our most vulnerable varieties last. Pinot Noir Précoce is an early budding variety and it is not as hardy to frost as our other varieties!

The ground cover has started to grow so there is lots of signs that nature is moving into spring, although for our vines it will be at least another 6 weeks before we see any sort of movement with the buds. So hopefully enough time to finish off pruning, tie down our fruiting canes, and then have a general tidy by mulching the old canes with the mower and a spray undervine to keep the weeds at bay.

Bottling of our 2022 wines will be taking place over the next month – so keep your eyes peeled for exciting developments and announcements. Once bottled, the wine is left to rest for a few weeks until it has settled and then we can release, so we are aiming for a 2023 May/June launch! Exciting times!

What our customers have to say…
Really loving this fantastic drop from lovely Shrewsbury. Light, fragrant, grass notes. Lots of green apple and a tropical edge.
Ryan Mal, Vivino
Fresh on the palate, lively and juicy green apple in the mouth tempered with just a hint of honey.”
